U.S Presidential Elections: who do you side with?

Ehdokkaat olivat kohdallani yllattaen tasavakisia vuonna 2012, jopa republikaanien ehdokas oli aika korkealla prosenttimaaralla mukana. Eipa ole enaa.

Vaikka en edelleenkaan saa aanestaa, tein testin myos tana vuonna ja tassapa tulokset: 

Kylla ovat republikaanit kauaksi tippuneet ja kylla se vaan niin on, etta paljon parjattu Hilary Clinton on kanssani todella samoilla linjoilla.

Edellisen vaalipostauksen kommenteissa esitin mielipiteeni seuraavasti:

"I will stick to my claim that Reps represent the best interests of only a small minority. They don't represent the best interests of women, whom are about half the population. They don't represent the best interest of people with low income, the ones that might at some point of their lives need government assistance. And since almost 60% of Americans will spend at least one year below the poverty line at some point between ages 25 and 75, I'd say that is a significant amount of people whose best interests the Reps do not represent, making the minority even smaller. 

While I don't think Democrats are perfect, I do believe they serve the best interest of the nation as a whole, whereas Reps have the best interest of a few in mind. Romney would not the president of the American people, he would only be the president of a minority, the wealthy. As he himself said it's not job his job to worry about 47% of the Americans, doesn't really sound like the president of a whole nation. Obama on the other hand is a president of the entire nation and I'm very proud that Americans made such a choice in 2008 and I feel privileged that I was there to witness it. I'm interested in seeing what choice Americans will make this year.

As stated previously, I would vote for the Democrats, since they bring equality, and I'm a very pro-equality person, whereas Reps would only bring inequality (economically and otherwise) with their policies. I will never be convinced that some of us are not entitled to the same rights as others based on for example our gender, birth place or sexual orientation. We are all created equal."

Ja sama mielipide patee edelleen, jos vain paivittaa ehdokkaiden nimet. Presidentti Obamasta olen edelleen ylpea. Tana vaalivuonna tulokset koskettavat itseani edellista henkilokohtaisemmin erityisesti maahanmuuttajana ja naisena. Pelonsekaisin tunnelmin odottelen huomista vaalitulosta.

Mapping the U.S Presidential Election

For the last few days my Facebook news feed has been swarmed by different kinds of election maps. I've seen some of the maps several times, but some of them have appeared only a few times. 

Here they are:

The actual result of the electoral vote, everyone has probably seen this map, the newest version has Florida counted as well.

My Republican fb-buddies have circulated this map in a frenzy, it shows results per county.  It is obviously something every Republican wants to see, a sea of red. I think someone pointed out that bunch of the red areas have a very scarce population, upsetting the original poster, who was (according to their own words) a proud redneck. I'd also like to add that a lot of my Republican friends have been screaming how Romney won the popular vote and what a travesty it is that Obama won. Of course, if they had bothered to look into it, they'd realize they are wrong. But who cares about facts, truth has never been important to the Republican party anyways.

For a historian, the fact that this map (or maps) has been making rounds, is very interesting. Needless to say my few Democrat-friends have been the ones distributing this one.

Here's the newest map circulating, it's based on population. It's probably the most "accurate" one when it comes to visualizing the election results. Democrat-friends are also behind this one.

U.S Presidential Elections: who do you side with?

I was curious who do I side with in the U.S presidential elections, even though I can't vote, so I tried iSideWith.Com. The results were a bit surprising on the candidate side, not so much on the party side.

Jill Stein it is, although the Democrats are clearly my party, according to this site. I was a bit surprised to find out I side 64% with the Libertarian Party, but I think it's because I believe in civil liberties. Jill Stein probably went ahead of Barack Obama since I'm very strong on women's rights. I'm a very pro-equality person and I think it shows in my results.

Any of my readers surprised with my results? :) I don't expect anyone else to be as candid as I am with their results, but if you do choose to share them with me, I'd love to hear them!  

When being a woman is no longer a "pre-existing condition"

Since I'm very much a pro-equality person and have had a few problems with insurance companies in the U.S, I found this infographic on Ultraviolet's page really interesting:

What do you think of the infographic? Is it too good to be true that women will finally be equal  in the U.S when it comes to health insurance? Personally I think all of this should have been obvious to the lawmakers and insurance equality should have been enforced a long time ago! But then again, as my dear ex told me, I'm one of those liberal whiners ;)

 

"What's wrong with people?"

My blog's like/dislike list say that injustice infuriates me. It's so very true, and the injustices that infuriate me are many. I'm also often saddened by other people's actions, I just don't understand what's wrong with some people.

This week's Aurora shooting is one of those things that make me ask the question in the title. It's just incomprehensible why these things happen. Call me naive, but I like to believe majority of the world is full of sane people. Sometimes, I wonder if I'm wrong. I have no personal connection to the victims, I have friends that live in Denver area, but they were not among those in the theater. But still, I'm furious this kind of injustice has happened, so many innocent people suffering as a result of one man's actions.

What infuriates me even more is the discussion about gun control that has followed. Really, is there no respect for the people who just lost their lives or lost a loved one? Do people really need to start firing (no pun intended) their political agenda right away? More guns/vigilantes is the solution? What is wrong with people?

Now, that being said, I'm going to do just the opposite and throw my two cents in the air. I believe in the person's right to hunting weapons. I believe hunting is a basic right, one is allowed to get their own food. And if need to be, you can use your hunting weapon to protect your home and family. All other weaponry belongs to non-civilian hands. Period.

I'm saddened not only because of what happened, but I'm saddened that people feel so aggressively about their right to bare arms that lost lives don't matter to them as long as they can keep their weapons.

Obamaful raffle prize :)

I was super-lucky to win a raffle that Pilvi had in her blog How to become an emigrant. I had no idea what to expect, since this was a surprise prize and I was so excited when I opened the package and found these:

I'm probably not going to discuss much U.S politics in this blog, at least while I'm not in the U.S, but I think it's a fair assumption that I'm not a big fan of GOP. I have many issues with the Republican party, but my main problem with them is that they are not an equality party and I'm very much a pro-equality person. This and other issues would prevent me from ever voting for such a party as GOP. It is fair to say that if I had to make the choice, I'd be a Democrat.
